Mari Yokoichi is an artist and photographer whose work spans across various mediums. Her creative process involves an intuitive approach, as she listens to and experiments with the materials she works with. Her artistic style is characterized by a diverse range of techniques, which she utilizes to apply paint and other materials to her canvases and paper. Mari’s approach relies on random processes, allowing matter to dictate its form as a result of an intercation between chance and control. Occasionally, she creates her artwork in natural settings, incorporating found materials into her artwork.
In addition to her 2-dimensional work, she also explores sculptural forms. These are sometimes used to create spatial experiences that challenge our perception of that space. Mari also integrates her art and photography, capturing site-specific installations and object studies that showcase her artistic vision. In her photographic work she often explores the interplay between light, structure and form.
